Mazzocca Leads Lee Over Valdosta State in Five Games

Thanks to 15 kills and seven blocks from Grace Mazzocca the Lee volleyball team outlasted Valdosta State, 3-2 for its third straight Gulf South Conference victory on Tuesday night.

The Lady Flames went on the road to take down the Blazers for the second time in five days. Lee won, 3-1 on Friday in Walker Arena.

The Lady Flames jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with 25-22 and 25-21 victories. The Blazers would not go quietly as they bounced back to win the third set 25-22 and forced the tiebreaker with a 28-26 set four triumph.

The fifth and final set was dominated by the Lady Flames as they scored seven straight points to open the set and held a 12-1 to advantage before putting an exclamation point on a third straight victory as Abby Stroh's 13th kill gave Lee the 15-7 win.
The Lady Flames hit a sizzling .643 in the fifth set with nine kills and no errors on 14 attacks.

In addition to freshman Mazzocca's all-around play, freshman Sophia Lippert continued her solid play with 10 kills from the right side. Ashton Middleton dished out 30 assists and 17 digs.

Mackenzie Murray paced the Blazers with 19 kills and five blocks while Jojo Smith added 14 and 19 digs. Audrey Bennett tallied 41 assists.

With the win the Lady Flames improve to 5-14 and 3-4 in the GSC. The loss drops Valdsota State to 7-13 and 1-6 in league play.

Lee will continue its three-game road trip on Friday with a visit to Auburn Montgomery. First serve is set for 4 p.m. On Saturday the Lady Flames will tangle with traditional GSC-power West Florida in Pensacola at 3 p.m.
