Favorite Pastimes Were Spending Time With Her Grandchildren And Caring For And Riding Horses

Donelle L. Proctor, 81, of Talladega, Alabama, and formerly of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023.

She was born in Scott City, Kansas on April 20, 1941.

Donelle graduated from Scott County High School before earning her undergraduate degree in Education from the University of Kansas. Her professional career spanned several years in executive positions with Recreation Ranch and other non-profit agencies. She was a member of PED, ARC of Talladega.

Donelle's favorite pastimes included spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed caring for and riding her horses. She and her best friend, Sally Worland, started a therapeutic horse program for children with disabilities. The horsemanship program for the disabled is Recreation Ranch and it began in 1978 and was the first therapeutic program in the Southeast.

Donelle is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Jennifer Oldenburg of Chelsea, Alabama; and two grandchildren, Gray Oldenburg, 21, and Helen Catherine Oldenburg, 18.

The memorial service for Donelle Proctor will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Camp Hidden Hollow, 463 Hidden Hollow Lane (Dr.) in Chickamauga, Georgia. It is suggested you wear something red, as that was “Dondi’s” favorite color.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Recreation Ranch Inc. or ARC of North Talladega County.
