Jennifer Armstrong, RN, supervisor at Ascension Living Alexian Village Tennessee, was honored with the prestigious Daisy Award, during a special ceremony.

The DAISY Foundation was formed in January 2000 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of complications of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). The Barnes family, impressed with the compassionate nursing care their son Patrick received before his death, wanted to recognize extraordinary nurses everywhere for the difference they make in the lives of patients and families.

The DAISY Award is a nationwide program that recognizes nurses who "consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise, compassion and spirituality, and are recognized as role models in the nursing community."

Ms.
Armstrong was nominated for the award by a co-worker. In the nomination, her co-worker wrote, in part:

“She is a team player focused on providing superior care and service to everyone in our community, including residents, guests and co-workers. Recently, Jennifer came to work and saw that we needed some help in the kitchen. She jumped right in and helped serve food to make sure that our residents were taken care of. She also extends kindness without hesitation. I will never forget the time when one of our residents was transitioning, she came in on her own time on her day off and sat with the resident to make sure the resident felt loved and not alone. She always goes above and beyond for her co-workers and residents.”

“Jennifer is an outstanding nurse and consummate teammate who is always focused on serving others,” said Doug Malin, executive director, Ascension Living Alexian Village Tennessee. “It was my distinct honor to present Jennifer with this national award.”
