Betty Joyce Jackson
Betty Joyce Jackson, 89, a lifetime resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed from this life peacefully on May 23, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family after her courageous battle with Parkinson’s.
Betty was of the Baptist faith, born in Sylvania, Al., on March 25, 1934, to Dewey and Ruthie Traylor. Betty spent her life caring for her family, and was a devoted home childcare provider for many years. Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Hoyal Jackson Jr.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Ruthie Traylor as well as brothers, Clayton Lee Traylor, Jimmy Ray Traylor and sister, Nell Jo Couch.
Betty is survived by her four loving daughters, Pamela (Rick) Minella of Gulf Shores, Al., Karla (Christa) Mannarino-Jackson, Stacey Jackson, and Amy Jackson all of Chattanooga; grandchildren: Misty McGhee and Matthew McGhee, Ashley and Christina Garner, and Brittney Gravitt, all of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
Betty is survived by three sisters, Peggy (Gary) Justice, Carolyn (Jay C) Dalton, and Brenda (Marty) Goins, and one brother Junior (Judy) Traylor, and many more loving nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
The family would like to express our gratitude to Gentiva Hospice, especially Coco, Gwen and Bonnie for their compassion, and love while caring for Betty. A very special acknowledgement to Ashley, Betty’s granddaughter, for her palliative care skills, devotion, and love for Betty during these past several months, especially during her last days.
Pallbarriers include Matt and Jack McGhee, Adam Miller, Nikolas and Landen Reile, Jeff Gilbert, David Pickett, and Rick Minella.
Visitation will be held at Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, Tn., on Thursday, May 25, from 5–8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 26, at 11 a.m. in the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Homel. Interment will immediately follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
