Alton Donald Dupree, 87, of Chattanooga, TN passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024 at Morning Pointe of Chattanooga at Shallowford.

Donald was born on May 12, 1937 in Fort Payne, Alabama. He moved to Chattanooga in 1955 to go to work at Dixie Yarns. At that time, he met Mary Lou Smith and they dated five weeks before marrying, which lasted for 66 years until her death. Donald was a member and former Deacon of Calvary Baptist Church in Red Bank for over 40 years. The past few years, he attended Silverdale Baptist Church on Bonny Oaks. He loved to go to church and rarely missed. Donald loved to work, work, and work. He retired at the age of 86 from Total Concepts. He worked at Otasco and Fowler Brothers for many years too. His hobby was watching sports, especially Alabama football, and he loved to watch his grandkids play baseball. In his early years, he bowled, played golf, played basketball, and sang in a local band.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou, parents, Alfred and Martha Dupree, brothers, Alfred Dupree Jr., Charles Dupree, twin brother Ronald Dupree, sisters, Sybil Woebbeking, and Virgina Laney, brother-in-laws, Walter Smith, Howard Smith, and TJ Kirk, sister-in-laws, Clara Smith, Hazel Smith, Opal Smith, and Nila Dupree, also, his In-laws, Joe R. and Ruby Smith.

Survivors are two sons and daughter-in-laws, Gary (Terri) and Keith (Carol), sister, Kay Stearns, sister-in-laws, Kathren Dupree and Laura Wade, brother-in-law, Lee Smith and sister-in-law, Lois Smith, nine grandchildren, Danielle Dupree, Kevin Dupree, Kaci Dupree, Lauren Dupree, Rob Gardner, Amber Gardner, Kelly Bearden, Brian Beck, and Cari Beck, nine great-grandchildren and 23 nieces and nephews. Also, special friends of over 55 years, Glenn and Levan Sims.

The family would like to thank Tennessee Oncology and Dr. Harsha Vardana for their special care for several years. Also, the staff of Morning Pointe for their friendship, hospitality, and care, and Hearth Hospice for making his last few days peaceful.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Hamilton Funeral Home with the Reverend Reggie Asplund officiating. Interment will follow the service at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
