Charles Leslie “Burr” Elliott, 88, of Hixson, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Richmond, Va.

He was a graduate of MTSU and Tennessee Wesleyan College. Charlie’s life passion was sports. He was a lifelong University of Tennessee fan and was a baseball and basketball coach to many in the Chattanooga and North Georgia areas. He was a referee and umpire for countless games and an avid golfer. He was passionate about education to better one’s life and was a teacher and principal in the 60s and 70s and member of the Chattanooga City School Board in the 90s. After teaching, Charlie became a successful nsurance agent for over 30 years.

Charlie’s church family was Hixson United Methodist Church where he was an active and faithful member and part of the Friendship Sunday School class. Charlie never knew a stranger. He lived to help others. He was always involved with his community and family. If you met him by one of his many nicknames of Burr, Flippo or Coach, you had a true friend in him.

He was preceded in death by his wife of over 58 years, Carolyn Robinson Elliott; his son, Mark Jeffrey Elliott; parents, Stancil and Louise Elliott; sisters, Carol McDowell, Judye Carslisle and Marilyn Elliott; brothers, Scott Elliott and Richard Elliott.

He is survived by his son, Paul Christopher Elliott (DeAnna) of Richmond, Va.; daughter, Leslie Kitchens (Chris); four grandchildren, Christopher Markus Elliott of Augsburg, Germany, Marley Taylor Elliott (Junseok Choi) of Jeonju, South Korea, Sophia Elizabeth Elliott (Brian Dessimoz) of Richmond, Va., and Tate Kitchens (Samantha) of Danville, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, Emily Elliott and Juno Elliott, James Francis Charles Elliott of Augsburg, Germany; sister, Theresa Patterson, Decatur, Tn. and brothers, Jim Elliott (Jeannette) of Atlanta, and Bo Elliott (Linda) of Clarksville, Tn.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hixson United Methodist Church, 5301 Old Hixson Pike, Hixson, Tn. 37343.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, July 19, at the funeral home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, at the Hixson United Methodist Church with Reverend Chuck Starks and the Honorable Judge Clarence Shattuck officiating. Entombment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
