Union College recorded its sixth victory in a row Thursday, defeating host Covenant (College 3-1 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play.
The six-match win streak is the longest for the Lady Bulldogs since the 2003 season. Union improved to 13-11 overall and 8-3 in league play, while Covenant fell to 4-16 overall and 2-8 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
Union won the first two games 30-24 and 30-22 before Covenant rallied for a 32-30 decision, making it 2-1. The Lady Bulldogs, though, polished off the Lady Scots with a 30-28 win in the fourth in netting the conference victory.
Senior Amanda Bowling (Louisville, Ky.) posted eight kills and 43 assists, giving her 1,023 on the year to make her the first player in program history to record 1,000-plus assists in four consecutive seasons. Sophomore Marlee Cooper (Bloomington, Ill.) helped out with 16 kills, freshman Brooke Vinovich (Somerset, Ky.) had 14 kills, and freshman Christina Prindle (Florence, Ky.) added four service aces and 10 digs.
For Covenant, Kate Hampson had 25 kills, 20 digs, and 3 blocks. Joanna McGill racked up 11 kills, 2 aces, and 11 digs, while Christina den Dulk added 9 kills, 2 aces and 15 digs.
The Lady Scots take on Tennessee Temple on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Covenant.
Union returns to action on Tuesday when it pays Milligan College a visit. The Appalachian Athletic Conference match is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
