Tennessee Tech Volleyball Falls To SE Missouri

Six players produced double-digit kills for Southeast Missouri as it posted a 3-1 (30-23, 30-22, 24-30, 30-23) victory over visiting Tennessee Tech at Houck Fieldhouse. With the win, the Redhawks improve to 10-9 overall and 3-2 in Ohio Valley Conference play, while the Golden Eagles drop their record to 4-13 (1-4) on the year.

Junior outside hitter Brittany Hastings and junior middle blocker Brenna Schlader paced the Redhawks with 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Senior setter Jamie Baumstark nearly missed her fourth triple-double of the year as s he posted 52 assists, 10 kills and nine digs. Senior outside hitter Jessica Koeper also added a double-double of 12 digs and 11 kills, while freshman libero Molly Davis recorded a match-high 16 digs.

The Redhawks opened game one with a 5-2 lead on a kill from freshman right side hitter Karleigh DeLong. Tech rebounded with a 9-4 scoring drive to slice its deficit to 11-9 on a kill by Amanda Lindgren before Southeast used a quick 6-2 run to hike its lead back at 17-11 on a Golden Eagle error. After an Erin Lynn kill brought Tech to within 23-21, a 7-2 drive gave the Redhawks a 1-0 lead, capped by another DeLong kill.

In the second game, Southeast posted a .300 hitting clip to claim a 2-0 lead heading into the break. A Schlader kill and four service points from freshman libero Taylor Harbster snapped a 5-5 tie to give the Redhawks a 10-5 lead. A Hastings kill and a solo block from Koeper later increased the home team’s advantage to 23-17. The Redhawks finished the stanza by scoring seven of the final 12 points played to earn the win.

Consecutive kills from Jessica Apslund and Lindgren gave Tech an 11-9 lead in the third game and later claimed a 24-14 lead thanks to seven points from the serve of Fran Flatt. The Redhawks could get no closer than six points for the rest of the game as the Golden Eagles finished with a .375 hitting clip and held Southeast to a hitting percentage of 133.

Freshman middle hitter Hannah Weis helped the Redhawks claim a 12-9 lead to open the fourth game with a kill and three straight service points, including two aces, while two kills from Lynn later closed Tech’s deficit to 14-12. A Baumstark kill handed the Redhawks a 21-15 lead and three kills from DeLong increased the margin to 25-20. Five of the stanza’s final eight points went to Southeast as it captured the win on kills from Schlader and Baumstark.

Lynn was one of three Tech players to post double-digit kills as she paced the Golden Eagles with 16 stops. Lindgren added 12 kills and five blocks (two solo, three assisted), while Apslund produced 10 kills and Kappy Lang tallied 45 assists. Katie Kenline and Teresa Craig added 15 digs apiece for Tech.
