James “Jay Bird” Clifton Burris, 78, died on Friday, April 6, 2007, in a local nursing facility.
He was born in Tennessee to the late Dewey and Eunice (Henry) Burris.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clyde “Red” and Earl Burris; and sister, Helen Blaylock.
He was a veteran of World War II, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Doris Burris, of Rossville; children, Nancy Harshaw, of Nashville, Theresa Lane, of Rock Spring, Ga., Jimmy Burris, of Chattanooga; sisters, Dot Cordell, of Lakeview, Ga., Ruby Oxford, of Rossville; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
His family will receive friends all day Sunday at the funeral home.
