Psychotherapy Alternatives Purchases Headquarters From Thornton

  • Tuesday, February 3, 2009

Dr. Geoffrey S. Hubona, PhD. and Laura Schreeder Hubona, MA, LCSW recently acquired the former headquarters of Thunder Enterprises from John C. “Thunder” Thornton, a nationally-recognized real estate developer and University of Tennessee trustee.

Located at 1307 Hixson Pike in the Riverview shopping district, Mrs. Hubona’s counseling practice will occupy the office building, which was built in 1920.

“We think that Mrs. Hubona’s business will fit nicely with the neighborhood,” said Bill Horton, CEO and chief counsel of Thunder Enterprises.

Thunder Enterprises purchased and occupied the building in 2002. When the business needed more space for employees, they relocated their operations to their current McCallie Avenue address in early 2008.

“We are very lucky to acquire such a wonderful restoration,” said Mrs. Hubona. “No detail has been left undone, and the location is so convenient for our patients.”

Psychotherapy Alternatives, PLLC is a full service mental health firm. The independent practitioners affiliated with the firm offer an array of specialties and certifications, including adolescents, ADHD, eating disorders, art therapy, equine therapy and hypnotherapy.

The Riverview office includes the following independent practitioners: Leslie Chandler, MEd and middle school guidance counselor at Girls’ Preparatory School; Sonya Naulta, long-term care manager at Fortwood Center and certified hypnotherapist; Dr. Deborah Poteet-Johnson, MD and former president of Ad-Med; Jennifer Chadwick and Erin Looney, Lee University graduate students and girls’ group coordinators.

In addition to their new Riverview facility, the practice occupies another office in the Hamilton Place area at 101 Jordan Drive, owned by Gilliam Properties. Mrs. Judy Gilliam, president of Psych Assist, LLC, manages accounting and insurance reimbursements for the practice.

Mrs. Hubona, CEO of Psychotherapy Alternatives, PLLC, has provided counseling services for women and girls in the Chattanooga area since 2002. A Chattanooga native and graduate of Girls’ Preparatory School, she is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles B. Standefer and the daughter of James H. Schreeder and the late Judith Standefer Schreeder.

She received her BA and MA from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and her MSW from Virginia Commonwealth University, one of the top ranked MSW programs in the country. She turned down a fellowship to Yale University’s child development center in exchange for an engagement ring to her husband, Geoffrey. She is currently finishing an art therapy certificate program at Northwestern University in Chicago IL.

She and her husband, Dr. Geoffrey S. Hubona, PhD, reside on Lookout Mountain; their eight-year old son, Michael, is a second grader at Chattanooga Christian School. They are members of First Centenary United Methodist Church.
