Johnny Leroy Parks, age 68, of Dalton, Ga., died Thursday morning, August 11, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Johnny was born April 20, 1943 in Dalton, a son of the late William Henry and Eunice Lee Byers Parks.

He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Tim Eubanks, father-in-law, E.R. Hammond and brothers-in-law, Billy Hammond, J.E. Bagley and Herbert Dean.

Johnny worked many years for the Whitfield County Road Department and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Johnny was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed training horses and working on the farm. He loved life and especially spending time with his family. They were his life.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Glenda Hammond Parks of the residence; son, Johnny Parks of Dalton; daughters, Markitta and Will Schelleack of Resaca, Kim Parks of Dalton; grandchildren, Matthew Eubanks, Mitchell and Jessica Eubanks; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Eubanks, Leland Eubanks, Kyrsten Eubanks and Haylee Walraven; brother, Henry and Brenda Parks, Jr. of Calhoun, Ga.; sisters, Syilvea Bagley and Doris Dean both of Dalton; mother-in-law, Haynie Hammond of Dalton; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Vestal Sales of Chatsworth, Wanda and Jim Grant of Cumming, Ga., Wayne Hammond of Hail Town, S.C.; special daughter and her husband, Sandra and Craig Springfield of Chatsworth; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Johnny Parks will be held Saturday morning, August 13, at 11 a.m. at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with Minister Scott Crow and Dr. Danny Cochran officiating.

He will be laid to rest at the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery with Matthew Eubanks, Mitchell Eubanks, Blake Bagley, Craig Springfield, Sr., Craig Springfield, Jr., David Parks, Jonathan Bagley and Andy Dean serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 9 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday until the funeral hour.
