UTC Golfers Finish 5th Behind Strong Effort From Agathe Sauzon

  • Sunday, October 5, 2014

IOWA CITY, Iowa---Senior Agathe Sauzon finished tied for third at the Diane Thomason Invitational. It’s her fourth career top five and seventh top 10 as she threatened to claim her third collegiate victory.

Sauzon’s 11-over total of 227 was a single shot behind co-medalists Lena Gautier (Northern Illinois) and Dana Gattone (Illinois) at 10 over. Sauzon turned it rounds of 77, 75 and 75 on a tough scoring weekend that saw the field average 80.72 strokes per round.

“She composed herself really well,” head coach Colette Murray said.

“She is a high-quality golfer, and she’s obviously disappointed with finishing one shot off the lead. (Her play this weekend) is a sign of things to come.”

Chattanooga finished fifth overall at 939. Illinois won the event with a spectacular final round 291 giving the Illini a 14-shot win over host Iowa (931). Wichita State was third at 936, while South Dakota State was fourth at 937.

Emily McLennan ended up tied for 14th at 234. Sarah Dolmovich was next for the team counters tying for 32nd at 240 with Isabella Loza a shot behind tying for 37th at 241. Cris Perez rounded out the team starters tying for 55th (249). Megan Woods played well as an individual with her best finish of the year tying for 19th at 236.

“We’re forming right now,” Murray noted when asked about the team’s finish. “We’re figuring things out. I know we are going to be good…I just wish we were there now. Every one of them tried hard, but we are still finding ourselves as a lineup.”

The Mocs are off until Friday, Oct. 17, when they travel to Knoxville for the Mercedes-Benz Championship. The three-day, 54-hole event is played at Cherokee Country Club, site of McLennan’s Tennessee Amateur title this past summer
