Jazz Vespers Service To Be Held At St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church

  • Thursday, January 15, 2015

A Jazz Vespers service will be held at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, Signal Mountain, on Sunday, Jan. 25, at 5 p.m. All are welcome to attend this service. There is no admission charge, but a freewill offering will be accepted, with all gifts going to support the Jazz Vespers program. A reception will follow the service in the Parish Hall.

For the ninth time, Kathy Tugman and the David Walters Trio have prepared an enticing program of music, bringing the emotional complexity of jazz into the light of the Vesper candle.

The set list includes well-known tunes like “Smile” by Charlie Chaplin and lesser known, but still beautiful, melodies like those found in Peggy Lee’s “Where Can I Go Without You.” This type of fascinating music will share the stage with spiritual and gospel songs, all punctuated by scripture readings and selections from American poets.  Uniting all the elements will be the swing and rhythmic drives of jazz and the vocal stylings of Kathy Tugman.

St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church is at 630 Mississippi Avenue on Signal Mountain.
