New Walmart Neighborhood Market To Open On Shallowford Road

  • Friday, November 6, 2015

Walmart will open a new Neighborhood Market at 4110 Shallowford Road in early 2016.  The store is expected to create up to 95 jobs.

“Walmart has made a great investment in Chattanooga with the opening of several Neighborhood Markets,” said Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke. “These stores not only provide people with food options, but access to other important services like a pharmacy. This helps improve the overall quality of our neighborhoods.”

Councilman Russell Gilbert, a longtime advocate for securing a grocery store in this area, also expressed his support. “We are excited Walmart chose this area as part of its plan for growth in Chattanooga,” he said. “Local residents currently travel several miles to visit a grocery store, so the addition of this Neighborhood Market increases access to fresh, healthy foods. This new Neighborhood Market is important to improving the health of our community and providing jobs.”

The new Neighborhood Market in Chattanooga will be approximately 41,000 square feet and will feature produce, meats and dairy products, frozen foods, dry goods and staples, deli and bakery offering custom cakes, and household supplies. The Neighborhood Market will also include a pharmacy and a fuel station.

“Walmart is excited for the opportunity to become a bigger part of community in Chattanooga,” Walmart Market Manager Greg Tunstill said. “We are thankful for the vision of the city council, the Mayor’s office, and city staff in helping us bring local residents a new opportunity to save money so they can live better.”
