Take It Easy With The Salt/Brine Trucks

  • Friday, February 20, 2015

I know the County and TDOT may be stuck between a rock and a hard place,  but they need to carefully consider the overuse of brine mix spread upon the roadways.   While ice on the road can be dangerous,  it likely will not last more than a day or so.  In the meantime, the salt/brine being sprayed will harm vehicles for years to come.  The corrosion caused to the undercarriage of vehicles is real, and substantial.

Salt is harmful, but the brine liquid mixture is even more corrossive to vehicles.  Would you take a syringe and spray acid into the crevices of your vehicle?  That is essentially what is happening when the brine mix splashes onto your car.

Making the roadways less slick is a good thing.  However, the brine mix comes at a cost we will all notice in about five years when our cars are rusting out.
