Berry College in Rome, Ga., is now accepting applications for its summer program, Preparing Leaders for Ultimate Success (PLUS.)

The application deadline is April 20.

Berry student Megan Michel, a PLUS alumna from Signal Mountain, said the program gave her the opportunity to get a taste of college life.

“My favorite part was just getting to know other people and working with mentors through the program who actually are college  students so I can hear their firsthand advice,” Ms. Michel said. “You are learning the skills to help throughout your senior year. You are learning what is the application process for college… It’s a long journey and it starts now.”

The PLUS summer enrichment program is designed to instill the skills needed for success in college in rising high school seniors from diverse backgrounds. Thirty students will be selected for the one-week program, scheduled to run June 21-27.

Participants will stay in Berry's residence halls and attend classes and workshops about career exploration, study skills, and preparing for college along ACT/SAT Prep with Sylvan Learning Center. Students will conduct research on current topics, participate in a peer-review presentation and develop their interpersonal skills in teambuilding activities.

The program fee of $275 includes meals, lodging and instruction. Applications may be downloaded from www.berry.edu.stulife/multicultural/plus.
