Myers, Cyril A., Sr.

  • Sunday, May 24, 2015

Elder Cyril A. Myers, Sr., 80, of Collegedale, was born July 8, 1934 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and died on May 9, 2015 in Collegedale.

He married Miriam Daisy Beck on July 28, 1957 at Canadian Union College in Alberta, Canada. He was always intensely proud to be a Canadian. Pastor Myers graduated from Oshawa Missionary College in 1955 as the class vice-president; 1958-Canadian Union College with a Bachelor of Theology where he served as president of the Student Association winning the position as a write-in candidate; 1959-Potomac University – The Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary – Master of Arts in Divinity; 1969-Meridian Junior College – Associate Degree in Nursing; 1978-Andrews University – Master of Arts in Education.

He and his wife shared a deep love of music, and instilled that passion in their children, with four of the seven becoming successful music teachers. That love of music continues on in the grandchildren.  Elder Myers dedicated his life to ministry and service as an ordained pastor, teacher and singing evangelist in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, pastoring the Chicago Heights, Morgan Park and Shiloh churches in Illinois; the district of Lexington, Kentucky; the Meridian and SoSo churches in Mississippi; the Huntsville First and Decatur churches in Alabama, as well as the congregation in Florence, Tn.

Elder Myers was equally committed to building a strong Christian home and his fierce determination to adequately provide for his family led him to also become a Registered Nurse, working nights to help provide for his family while carrying on the duties of pastoring as well.

He will be dearly missed by his family including his wife of nearly 58 years, Miriam Daisy Beck Myers; six children: Sharon Ramos, Michael (Denise), Candace Myers Nesmith (Douglas), Lois Myers-Mirmotahari, Cyril (Marcella), and James; 17 grandchildren: Christina, Julian, Michael “Aander”, Esther, Josef, Johannes, Micaela, Silviane, Christianna, Danyelle, Alexander, Angelina, Calvin, Miriam, Mina, Jonathan, and Gabrielle; and one great-granddaughter, Laila. Two brothers, Milton and William; one sister, Evelyn; and his son, Paul, preceded him in death.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 25, from 12-1 p.m. at The Collegedale Church of Seventh-day Adventists.
