Shirley Ann Zarzour-Fuller, 79, died on July 13, 2015 with her family at her side.

Shirley was born on Oct. 6, 1935, in Shannon, Ga.

There are few fixtures in our humble little town that represent a bright, colorful, and familiar thread in the fabric of our community. Shirley was one of those few.

Most days you would find Shirley at the family’s restaurant on Rossville Avenue. Zarzour’s had been a part of her life from the time she moved to Chattanooga as a small girl. The restaurant, serving southern specialties, was much more than simply a place to eat; it was a cornerstone of a family business and life that Shirley loved. Shirley was born to Abe and Ann Garnett Zarzour, full of life, certainly energetic, opinionated, and some might say feisty. She never met a stranger and oft times you’d find her rewarding children with something special for getting good grades or feeding someone who simply couldn’t afford to buy food and was hungry. If you were lucky, you might get her to sit still for a moment to share a story or a joke- but more often than not, she was working and giving equal time to everyone who graced the doors of Zarzour’s.

Yes, there are few institutions or fixtures in any town- and fewer that gave so many a smile, a point of the finger or a wise, kind word than Shirley Fuller. And there are certainly even fewer that will be missed as dearly as this soul.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Abe Zarzour and Ann Garnett Short; husband, Floyd “Flop” Fuller, Jr.; and daughter Carol Marie Fuller, all of Chattanooga.

She is survived by her children, Cindy Fuller-Thomas (Charles “Butch” Thomas), Joe “Dixie” Fuller (Shannon Fuller) both of Chattanooga, Paul Fuller (Elizabeth Fuller) of Franklin, and Dr. David Fuller (Cindy Fuller) of Birmingham, as well as 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A special thank you to Kim Walker’s Caregivers and our two angels Susan Flint and Tina Gross. You blessed our entire family.

Memorial gifts may be made to: the Humane Educational Society of Chattanooga, 212 N. Highland Park Avenue, Chattanooga, Tn. 37404 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tn. 38105.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, at St. Jude Catholic Church with Monsignor Al Humbrecht officiating. Interment will be at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace, 877-3524.
