Include Those Alone On Thanksgiving Day

  • Tuesday, November 22, 2016

Thanksgiving time is here again. All around town, groups of family and friends will sit down to scarf down the traditional feast. Many community groups will also come together to help the poor and/or homeless at least get a good Thanksgiving meal.

One small group of people will have to fend for themselves on that day. They are not homeless and can easily afford a Thanksgiving dinner. But for whatever reason, they will have to eat it alone. They have few family or friends with whom to share that meal.

Cooking a big feast for one seems like an enormous waste of food. So they look for the restaurant listings to see who will be open that day. Wherever they go, they will have to deal with long lines and waits. Some might decide to pass on the meal and treat the day as just another one.

While it is too late for this year, it would be a noble idea for someone to organize a Thanksgiving meal for the folks who would otherwise be alone on this day. Maybe someone will consider it. Just a thought.
