Tennessee's Unemployment Rate Drops To 4.3% In April

Tennessee Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips announced Thursday that the Tennessee preliminary unemployment rate for April was 4.3 percent, two-tenths of a percentage point decrease from the March revised rate of 4.5 percent. The U.S. preliminary rate for April was 5.0 percent, remaining unchanged from the previous month.

  • Total nonfarm employment increased 1,300 jobs from March to April.

  • Over the year, nonfarm employment increased 83,800 jobs. The largest increases occurred in trade/transportation/utilities, education/health services, & professional/business services.
