Ganns Middle Valley Elementary Now Mostly Leveled

  • Tuesday, May 31, 2016
The classic-looking Ganns Middle Valley Elementary School has stood at the corner of Thrasher Pike and Middle Valley Road since 1937.

But it did not take workers with heavy equipment more than a few hours to level most of it by Tuesday afternoon.

The building was used this past school year but is being torn down now that a new school on the north side is set to open this August.
The new facility will also house students from the former Falling Water Elementary.

Tuesday morning, with about half the building still standing, a number of curious onlookers — likely former students — were seen watching and taking pictures and videos with their cell phones. By Tuesday afternoon, the site was mostly rubble.

Although once a rural community, that part of Middle Valley where the school sat has been slowly surrounded by suburbia. But scenes of that area’s pastoral past are still evident with an eye-catching stone farmhouse and historic wooden barn diagonally across Middle Valley Road — next to the new Walmart Neighborhood Center.
