Lee University will welcome Dr. Stanley Porter for a lecture, “Why Reading Biblical Languages Matters,” on Thursday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m.

“In addition to being perhaps the most widely published New Testament scholar of his era, Dr. Porter is a devoted churchman and a true friend of the faith,” said Dr. Mark Proctor, assistant professor of New Testament at Lee.

Dr. Porter serves as president, dean, and professor of New Testament at McMaster Divinity College in Hamilton, Ontario. He has authored 28 books along with various contributions to journals, shorter works, and special chapters.

Dr. Porter specializes in the Greek language and linguistics, hermeneutics, and various methods of interpretation. Dr. Porter also is a specialist in papyrological research and has a deep interest in the Greco-Roman world.

His interests in the language, writing and texts of the New Testament have shaped his work over the years. He is also fascinated by various biblical authors, such as John, Luke, and Paul.

In addition to his many responsibilities at McMaster’s, Dr. Porter also travels to speak and represent the college.

Before coming to McMaster, Dr. Porter served in young adult ministry. He remains active in his local church, where he often teaches and preaches.

The event is free and open to the public. The lecture will take place in the Jones Lecture Hall, located in Lee’s School of Religion.

The lecture is part of the “Coffee, Cake, & Theology” series hosted by the Lee Koine Greek club.

For more information about the series or the event, contact Dr. Proctor at mproctor@leeuniversity.edu.
