Lee University Releases Fall Schedule

  • Tuesday, June 27, 2017

Lee volleyball head coach Andrea Hudson has released her team’s 2017 schedule. It all begins on Aug. 26when the Lady Flames will tune up with all day exhibition contests against Berry College, Emory University and Carson Newman. The starting times will be announced at a later date.

“I’m really excited once again to have a competitive schedule,” said Hudson, who will begin her 27th as head volleyball coach.

“We will probably have our most significant challenges within the conference, but we are glad we are getting to play so many other teams within our region.

“We haven’t been to Lincoln Memorial in many years, and that tournament will be a very competitive start to our year,” she added. “As always the crossover (tournament) with the Sunshine Conference in the middle of the season will also be a great challenge. There is going to be a lot of outstanding volleyball that the fans will have an opportunity to watch this year.”

The regular season begins on the road (Sept. 1-2) with coach Hudson taking her squad to Herrogate, Tenn. to go against South Atlantic Conference opponents Carson Newman, King University, Mars Hill College and host Lincoln Memorial University.

After continuing on to Nashville (Sept. 5) to test old rival Trevecca Nazarene, the Lady Flames open the home slate on Sept. 11, entertaining Emory University (7 p.m.) in a contest that has always provided plenty of excitement. Emory has long been a powerhouse in NCAA Division III play.

The home appearance will be short lived. The Lady Flames will travel to Atlanta on Sept. 16 and be pitted against host Emory and Claremont-Mudd Scripps.

Gulf South Conference action begins on the road (Sept. 19-23) with Lee facing tough matches at University of North Alabama, (Memphis) Christian Brothers and Union University.

The Lady Flames return to Walker Arena and the Sport Court on Sept. 26 for battles with GSC newcomer Auburn Montgomery (7 p.m.), then West Alabama (Sept. 29, 7 p.m.) followed by Mississippi College (Sept. 30, 1 p.m.)

After an Oct. 1 trip to Alabama Huntsville, coach Hudson’s club returns home for Oct. 7 and Oct. 10 dates with Shorter University and Emmanuel College. The GSC clash with Shorter begins at 1 p.m. and the non-conference match with Emmanuel starts at 1 p.m.

Lee will travel for a GSC-Sunshine State Crossover Tournament (Oct. 13-14) and bring non-conference foe Southern Wesleyan to Cleveland on Oct. 17 (7 p.m.). The Lady Flames have final road matches with Montevallo, Shorter, West Florida and Valdosta State.

The last home action will be against Valdosta State (Oct. 27, 7 p.m.), West Florida (Oct. 28, 2 p.m.) West Georgia (Nov. 3, 7 p.m.) and Montevallo (Nov. 4, 6 p.m.) The annual Volley for a Cure match will be against West Georgia.
