Melvin Cheek
Melvin Dale “Gordy Black” Cheek, 59, a resident of Cleveland, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at the family residence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Grover Cheek and Betty Rose Ledford Cheek, his brother, John Marshall Cheek, his sisters, Valerie Sue Cheek and Tammy Gayle Cheek Thompson, his grandparents, Eliza Jenkins, Jefferson Davis Cheek, Mamie Parker and Melvin Ledford, and all of his beloved aunts and uncles.
Dale enjoyed golf, NASCAR, classic country music, classic cars and his church. His first job was at the Shake Shack and he worked for several years at City Auto Parts, Halls Auto Parts and Don Ledford. He was a graduate of Bradley Central High School. He enjoyed sports, he played football in school and coached softball for several years winning his division several times. He was a devoted friend, a loving brother and a wonderful son. He also loved to travel especially to Panama City where he made an annual trip for 25 years.
He is survived by his beloved aunt, Billie Jean Howard, his brother, Michael D. Cheek and his treasured friend, Ms. Anita Dotson who was a lifelong friend of the family.
A Remembrance of Life Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, a 11 a.m. at the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services Wildwood Avenue Chapel with Reverend Johnny Underwood officiating. Johnny Cheek, Robert Cheek, Ricky Cheek, Danny Cheek, Super Dave Anderson and Ricky Ruth will serve as casket bearers.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 16, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
