Clyde Phillip Johnson departed this life on Thursday, January 3, 2019, in a local hospital to be with his heavenly father. 
 
Clyde was born in Meridian, Ms., on July 22, 1937.  Clyde relocated to Chattanooga at an early age to live with relatives.  Clyde attended and was educated in the Chattanooga School System.
 
In 1966 he met his soulmate and the love of his life Joann Williams.  Clyde united in holy matrimony with Joann his loving wife on October 3, 1966.  Joann Johnson preceded him in death. 
 
He was also preceded in death by a son, Michael L. Williams, Sr. and mother-in-law, Marion Church.
 
Clyde joined the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church with his wife, one of the original founders of the church.  He worked tireless for the Lord by serving as a member of the deacon board, choir member served as male lead vocalist and as church bus driver for many years.  His rich baritone voice was enjoyed by many other churches throughout the Chattanooga Area.
 
Clyde loved life and loved working with people.  Clyde started his working career with the City of Chattanooga, Public Works Department and later worked for The BFI Company, where he retired after more than 30 years of service.
 
Clyde lived in the hearts and lives of his family, friends and in every heart of those whose lives he touched.  Clyde leaves a wonderful legacy of love for his many friends to cherish.
 
Clyde leaves to cherish his memory, a daughter, Connie Johnson; two sons, Anderson (Carvetta) Williams of Birmingham, and Ronald (Sherrie) Williams of Chattanooga; three grandsons, Michael Williams Jr., Corey Taylor, Alexander Williams; two granddaughters, Prudence Forte and Melanie Williams; one great granddaughter, Velma Lillie Williams; three sister-in-laws, Ramona Carter, Vanessa Rucker, Melva Dawn Jackson; two brothers-in-law, Wendell Thornton and Hezekiah Rucker Jr.; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family and many friends.
 
The body will lie in state after noon on Monday, Jan. 7, and the family will receive friends from 6–7 p.m. at the funeral home.  A funeral service will be held at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church.  Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
