Need Arrives Before Santa's Sleigh: Salvation Army Launches Holiday Assistance Programs

  • Thursday, October 17, 2019

With just over nine weeks until Christmas, the Holiday Season is quickly approaching, and many local families need material assistance. To meet this need, The Salvation Army has started its Christmas outreach programs. The start of Angel Tree Registration is Monday for local low-income seniors and on Tuesday applications will begin for children who are from families in need. The Salvation Army is expecting many applicants as the need is great.

Families at or below the poverty line with children 12 years of age or younger and seniors 60 years of age and older are invited to register for the Angel Tree Program. Through the generosity of donors, the Angel Tree provides much needed clothing, toys and other crucial items to qualified participants. Registration will take place each day Oct. 21-25, and Oct. 28-Nov. 1.

In Chattanooga, folks can obtain an appointment to register at csarmy.org. Registration will take place at The Salvation Army located at 1019 North Moore Road.

In Cleveland, folks can register at The Salvation Army on Inman Street, by appointment only, by calling 308-3467.

For more information, including documentation required for registration, families in need should call 756-1023 or visit www.csarmy.org.

Volunteers are invited to join ranks and assist staff with the Angel Tree Program as well as other seasonal efforts. Volunteers may assist at Angel Tree tables in the mall and serve as bell ringers to raise money for many ministries which meet the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of neighbors. Changing a life is as easy as ringing a bell or adopting an Angel.

Donations can be made online at www.csarmy.org, by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY, or by mail to: 822 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37403. For additional information please call 756-1023.
