Spencer “Allen” Johnson, 67, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 21, 2019, surrounded by his beloved family. 

Allen, a native of Chattanooga and resident of Signal Mountain, was born in November, 1951 to the late Arwin Clarence Johnson and Jessie Elizabeth Johnson. Ever steadfast, persevering, and tender-hearted, Allen adored his family and fought valiantly against a long illness. A graduate of Hixson High School, Allen loved music, played guitar, and was a proud member of the band, Soul Session, where he played keyboard and percussion. He has fond memories of many adventures with his childhood buddies and riding his Honda motorcycle. 

Allen is lovingly remembered by his wife of 33 years, Sheryl “Sherry” Kingdon Johnson, his son, Spencer “Kyle” (Joelinda) Johnson, his daughter, Mary Lynn Johnson, and his older brother, Quillen (Dee) Johnson, his in-laws, Rev. Dr. Harold (Mary) Kingdon, brothers-in-law, Ed (Debbie) Kingdon, Jim (Paula) Kingdon, and Dr. John Tyson, nieces and nephews, a large extended family, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his nephew, Clarence Johnson, nephew, Kell Kingdon, and sister-in-law, Jill Kingdon Tyson. His family is encouraged to know that Allen is now reunited in heaven with he and Sherry’s miscarried child, Taylor.

Allen graduated from Covenant College and worked at Joseph Decosimo & Company for 27 years. He previously worked at the Christian Business Men’s Committee. He was a member of Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, and a former participant in The Navigators.  

A visitation will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 4-6 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace.

Please join the family for a Celebration of Life service and visitation immediately following on Sunday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m. at Signal Mountain Presbyterian. 

Contributions in lieu of flowers can be sent to Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church in memory of Allen Johnson.
