James Lane Byers, 81, a lifelong resident of Lookout Valley, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2019.  He was retired from Turner Advertising where he worked as a sign painter.  He started out painting the iconic “See Rock City” barns.

Mr. Byers was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Tiftonia Golf Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wynelle Byers, and a brother, Fred Byers.

Survivors include his children, Charles (Teresa) Byers, Bo (Mary Ann) Byers and Cindy (John) Bishop; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy (Ron) Newgard; brother, Richard (Barbara) Byers; several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Memorial Hospital and the staff of Hospice of Chattanooga for their loving care and concern.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, with his brother, the Rev. Richard Byers, officiating and Rick Smith giving the eulogy.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lakewood Memory Gardens, West with Rev. Richard Byers officiating.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Byers, Bo Byers, John Bishop, Cody Gossett, Bobby Blevins and Buddy Blevins.

The family will receive friends from 12–3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, Tn. 37416.
