Martha Joyce Shoemaker
Martha Joyce Shoemaker, age 75, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2019, with family at her bedside.
She graduated from Emery Street School Class of 1965 and worked for Collins and Aikman for 24 years as a mender inspector.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Douglas M. Shoemaker; parents, Lucius Tibbs and Martha Nell Austin Tibbs; daughters, Stephanie Keeler and Pamela N. Shoemaker; and brother, James F. Tibbs.
She is survived by her daughter, Evangelist Valerie (Daniel) Washington; three step-grandchildren, Daniel Washington, Christopher Washington, and Desmond Washington; five step-great-grandchildren; sister, Shelia (Vance) Young; brother, Lucius Allen (Pricilla) Tibbs; brothers-in-law, Robert (Laura) Shoemaker, James (Grace) Shoemaker, Waymon Shoemaker, Gerald (Lelia) Shoemaker; sister-in-law, Catherine Marsh; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 14, at 2:30 p.m. at the Willis Funeral Home Chapel, 2011 Martin L. King, Jr. Blvd. Dalton, Georgia 30721, with Dr. Bishop Stephen Thomas, Senior Pastor, Pastor David Thomas, eulogist, and Dr. Paul Starling, officiating.
Interment will be in Hopewell Cemetery.
Her remains will remain in state at the funeral home after 11 a.m.. Friday, Dec. 13.
