George Bonneau
George Bonneau, 77, of Hixson, took his last hike to meet his Heavenly Father on February 13, 2019, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
He lived in Chattanooga most of his adult life and attended Burks United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir until he was no longer able. After serving four years in the U.S. Navy, he began his career at TVA ending up at Sequoyah Nuclear Plant and retired in 1995 after 29 years of service. After retirement George spent his time traveling with his beloved wife, volunteering at many organizations and hiking several times a week. George served as a chaplain for the Boy Scouts and planned and led many of the hikes for the Soddy Daisy Hiking Club. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many, and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Virginia Bonneau and his brothers, John and Paul Bonneau.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sarah Bonneau, his daughters, Lori Casteel (Tee) and Susan Poore (Jeff) , grandchildren; Ryan Casteel, Joshua Poore and Abby Poore, great-granddaughter; Laila Bell, sister; Virginia Gros, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, Feb. 15, from 4-8 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home, 4506 Hixson Pike, and Saturday, Feb. 16, at Burks United Methodist Church, 6433 Hixson Pike, from 12-2 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16, at Burks United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dr. Tony Collins officiating.
Burial will be on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
