It is with great sadness that the family and loved ones of William “Billy” Richard Petty, Jr. , 40, announce that he peacefully ended his fight with cancer at his home on April 29, 2019.

Billy was an extremely hardworking provider and absolutely loved his entire family and the times they spent together.

Billy served six active years in the National Guard and his duty was the driver and navigator of the Rocket Launcher Utility vehicles known as MLRS and was awarded the badge for Expert Marksman. Billy was known for being an avid Alabama Football fanatic. No matter the scenery or situation, if he wasn’t making jokes or getting people to laugh, he was always shouting out “Roll Tide” everywhere he went. If you didn’t see him wearing his Alabama shirts, he was sporting the star of the Dallas Cowboys.

Billy had multiple passions in his 40 years of living: collecting knives and swords, camping, fishing, playing card games, volleyball, dirt track races and classic cars just to say a few. Billy was the person that always had to have the last laugh in every joke or prank he pulled. His laugh was contagious and it truly brought a smile to everyone’s face.

Billy was the only boy out of five children. Although his sisters gave him a hard time like all sisters do; he was extremely protective of each one of them.

He grew up at First Lutheran Church and was of the Lutheran faith. Billy was a very loving father, devoted husband and proud Poppy and will be missed tremendously.

He is survived by his mother, Teresa Petty; father, William Petty; wife of 20 years and love of his life, Devan; children, Angel (Bryant) Hastings, William “Bubba”, Jacob “Andy”; two grandchildren, Kristopher and baby Hastings; three sisters, Tina (Brad) Breazeale, Dusty Martin, Melissa (Cory) Lee; and many nieces and nephews. Billy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter and Arlene Anderson and William and Marie Petty and his sister, Carolyn Petty. Billy will always be remembered as a funny, loving man who loved his football and his family.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 3, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road with the Reverend Wade Patterson officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday and from 12-1 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

To honor Billy’s love of Alabama football, the family will be wearing Alabama colors. You are welcome to join us in this celebration. “Roll Tide!”

“Losing doesn’t make me want to quit. It makes me want to fight that much harder.” Coach Bear Bryant
