Alzheimer’s disease is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States and the only Top 10 cause of death that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed. The disease is affecting more and more individuals as they are diagnosed or put into a caregiver role.
“Understanding the disease and how to manage the often-baffling effects is the key to effective management," said Amy French, manager of Programs for the local Alzheimer’s Association.
The Alzheimer’s Association will provide a free conference on Alzheimer’s care on May 14. This event is specifically for anyone who is caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or other kinds of dementia.
Dr. Mathew Kodsi, area neurologist and expert on dementia care, will cap the day off with Dinner With The Doctor, an interactive Q&A beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Cleveland Mayor Kevin Brooks will welcome attendees. Mayor Brooks has been a strong advocate for persons with dementia and their caregivers throughout his career, helping raise awareness and pass important legislation during his tenure as a representative in the legislature.
