The July Sun and Star Party at Cloudland Canyon State Park will be held on Thursday, July 6, at the beginning of the disc golf course. Solar observations will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Specially equipped telescopes will reveal sunspots on the solar surface, as well as other phenomenon, such as solar flares.
"As it gets darker, we will observe the brighter night objects, such as Jupiter and Saturn," organizers said. "We will be identifying summer constellations. As the sky darkens further, we will turn our attention to deep sky objects such as star clusters, galaxies and nebulae."
Star Parties are conducted on the first Saturday of the month by the Barnard Astronomical Society, April through September.
If the weather is "iffy," call 941-544-3420 for latest info.
Star Parties are free to the public. Park parking fee applies.
