William Eugene “Gene” Harper, 77, a resident of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, surrounded by family and loved ones.

He was the son of the late Junior and Oma Harper.

Gene was a graduate of Soddy Daisy high School. He remained close to many of his classmates. He attended Tennessee Wesleyan University on a basketball scholarship. He enjoyed a successful career at DuPont where he retired after 34 years. He loved sports and enjoyed many years of playing basketball and softball and was an avid golfer. He was highly respected and loved by his family, friends and coworkers.

He is survived by his sons, Sean Harper and Brian (Angie) Harper; daughter, Erin (Chris) White; grandchildren, Aaron Harper and Anna Lee Harper; great granddaughter, Savannah Harper; sisters, Linda (Michael) Paulk and Sheila (Ken) Ogle; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson.

A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Reverend Wayland Stewart officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your local community kitchen or to the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are under the care of the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
