The Chattery Embarks On Their 6th Year And Unveils 4 New Programs For 2020

  • Wednesday, January 15, 2020

The Chattery is expanding its current class listings by offering four new programs. Slated to launch in January and February, the new programs include Coffee Talk, Freelance Friday, rotating visual art shows and memberships. Though these programs differ in topics, the mission for all four programs remains the same: to enhance the community through engaging and enjoyable learning.

"Coffee Talk is an opportunity to connect, sip coffee and have a conversation with creatives and go-getters in Chattanooga," officials said. "Happening once a month at The Chattery, Coffee Talks are ‘in real life’ moments to be inspired, have candid conversations and meet new friends."

The first edition of Coffee Talk begins this Saturday at 11 a.m. and features Association for Visual Arts’ Chief Curator Kreneshia Whiteside. During this talk, Ms. Kreneshia will share her perspective on being a black woman working in the art world. The registration fee is $5 and includes coffee (or tea) and light bites.

Freelance Friday gives opportunities to freelancers or employees looking to work away from their usual office setting a chance to work in a quiet environment for the day. Workers pay a $10 fee, which includes access to The Chattery’s workspace during business hours and access to wifi, snacks and beverages. It’s also a chance to collaborate, network and share skills with other professionals. The first Freelance Friday will launch on Friday, Jan. 24 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and continue every Friday after. Any changes or updates to the schedule will be announced on The Chattery’s social media.

The Chattery is actively seeking visual artists for upcoming and future shows taking place throughout the year. The first show will launch in February and the theme is Black Love. During this exhibit, artists will explore, highlight or interpret the beauty and/or complexities of black love. Each exhibit will have varying programs and learning experiences specifically designed for each show’s theme. Artists will keep 100 percent of the revenue of any art sold.

“When we decided to expand our programming, one of the goals we made was to be better advocates for our local arts community, “ says Shawanda Mason, creative director at The Chattery. “After realizing how much wall space we had available and consulting with local artists, we decided to host rotating themed art shows. This gives artists an additional way to showcase their work, while making art accessible to community members interested in learning more about each rotating exhibit.”

The Chattery is launching a membership program to attract current and new lifelong learners. Members will enjoy a yearlong discount on classes, access to host an event in The Chattery’s event space, co-working and other perks throughout the year. There are three membership tiers:

Honor Roll ($125)
Dean’s List ($250)
Honor Society ($600 - corporate membership option)
