And then there were four. Eight area teams were fighting for spots in this week's girls state soccer tournament in Murfreesboro on Saturday. Four remain.
In Division I, Class A action Signal Mountain beat Smith County 10-2 and will play McKenzie Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the state quarterfinals.
In Class AA, East Hamilton beat Kingston 1-0 and McMinn Central lost to Livingston Academy 1-0. East Hamilton advances to play Seymour on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
In Class AAA, McMinn County beat Franklin County 3-2 on penalty kicks and will play Bearden Wednesday at 4 p.m.
In Division II, state quarterfinal games were played on Saturday with winners advancing to the state semifinals on Thursday in Murfreesboro.
Both Silverdale and Boyd-Buchanan lost their quarterfinal matches in Division II-A with Silverdale losing to USJ 9-1 and Boyd-Buchanan losing to BGA 2-0.
GPS beat long time rival Baylor 4-1 and will advance to the state semifinal to play Brentwood Academy Thursday at 4 p.m.
Division I semifinals will be played on Thursday with the championships being played Saturday.
The Division II state championship is set for Friday at 4 p.m.
