Father Paul Joseph Valleroy passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2020. He was 83.

Father Paul was born and raised in St. Louis, Mo. He was the son of Sylvester and Vella Valleroy. Father Paul is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Carmela Valleroy of St. Louis and a number of nieces and nephews.

Before entering the seminary to study for the Catholic priesthood, he served in the Navy. He then studied at Southeast Missouri State University, Peabody and Vanderbilt in Nashville and the Paulist House of Studies in Washington, DC. He was ordained a Catholic priest in Kingsport, TN for the Diocese of Nashville on July 6, 1974.

After years of priestly service in East Tennessee to the Diocese of Nashville and the Diocese of Knoxville in Kingsport, Chattanooga, Notre Dame High School, Johnson City (ETSU), Greeneville, Newport, Cleveland, Signal Mountain, Alcoa and Copperhill, he retired in residence at St. Jude Catholic Church in Chattanooga in 2010. He was an advocate for the care of the people of Haiti. He was a lover of dogs. He was an avid fan of the Vanderbilt Commodores, CNN and he became somewhat tolerant of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In 2017, Father Paul suffered a stroke and entered rehab at Soddy Daisy Healthcare Center in Soddy Daisy. He remained there until he passed away. His family would like to thank Sharon, Stacy, Bruce and all the professional caregivers at the Healthcare Center. They would also like to thank ‘his laundresses’ and the Legion of Mary for their devotion in visiting him.

Father Paul’s Funeral Mass will be private, but will be livestreamed on Facebook (Charlie Burton Chattanooga page) on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to St. Jude Catholic Church, 930 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, Tn. 37415.
