William W. Woods (affectionately known as Bubba), 84, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2020, in Chattanooga.
He was born on Aug. 31, 1935, to Clyde Woods and Frances Maddox in Chattanooga. He was the second oldest of nine children. William accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Thompkins Chapel AME Zion Church. William attended and graduated from the Chattanooga Public School system.
As a young adult he migrated north to Detroit, Mi., where he received his barber's licenses. He was a master barber. William’s barber skills enabled him to travel with Jackie Wilson as his personal stylist. William returned to Chattanooga where he settled his roots, by opening Lindsey’s Barbershop and marrying the love of his life, Jacquelyn Woods. William and Jacquelyn lived a blissful union until her untimely death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Woods and Frances Maddox; his wife, Jacquelyn Woods; son, Rodney Jackson; brother, George Maddox; three sisters, Cynthia Clark, Joyce Miller and Margaret Penn.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Edrick (Charlette)Jackson, and James (Deborah) Hawkins; four siblings, Phillip (Betty) Maddox, Gloria Maddox, Robert (Cheryl) Maddox , Betty Maddox (Terry) Battle; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; godsons, Johnny and Michael Hines; two very special friends, Ron Brewer and Robert King; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Public viewing will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 7. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will be in Lakewood East.
