U.S. Air Force Veteran Was Retired Supervisor With The U.S. Postal Service

James M. “Sam” Hodge, 79, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2020.

Mr. Hodge was born and raised in East Lake. He graduated from Central High School in 1959, then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 – 64, Indian Mountain AFB, Alaska 708th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron.  He graduated from the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga in 1972 and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a supervisor in 1997. 

Sam was an avid University of Tennessee football fan and loved to golf.  After retirement, he loved to attend any sporting event of his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Julia Hodge; daughter, Jennifer (Kevin) Brinkmann; granddaughters, Molly, Emma and Megan Brinkmann; and sister, Linda (Bill) Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Anna Sue Hodge; brother, Chuck Hodge; and sisters, Reida Gordon and Nancy Kilgore.

Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, at the funeral home.

A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Lakewood Memory Gardens East.

Arrangements are by the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist,7414 Old Lee Highway, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
