  • Thursday, October 14, 2021

The John Sevier Chapter Tennessee Society Sons of the American Revolution will honor five charter or early members of the chapter and their patriot ancestors in a ceremony at historic Forest Hills Cemetery on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The ceremony is part of the America 250th anniversary celebrations honoring patriots and events of the American and is open to the public.  Additionally, the chapter is celebrating its 96th anniversary as part of the National Society, an event made possible by the honorees.

The early SAR members to be honored are Norton Thayer Montague, Frederick Ansley Hahn, Edward Dunbar Newell, Clarence Taylor Jones and Summerfield Key Johnston and the chapter will celebrate the society bond by honoring their patriot ancestors by which they joined the SAR.

The Revolutionary War patriots include Isaac Thayer, Samuel Bellah, Joseph Johnston, John Wilhoit and Isaac Ross, Jr.  The patriots represent the states of Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.  The Revolutionary War events that their combined service represents ranges from the Lexington Alarm, Siege of Boston, Ramseur’s Mill, Brandywine, Eutaw Springs and Yorktown.

Individuals or organizations interested in participating with the SAR in this or other patriotic programs can contact the John Sevier Chapter at: https://johnsevierchapter.org/home  (look for the contact us section above the map on the bottom of the home page) for more information.
