Burnese Jones
Burnese R. Jones, 95, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021, in Chattanooga.
She was born in Elbert County, Ga., to the late Roger McIntosh and Hattie M. Jones. She graduated from Elbert County Georgia High School. She retired from Chattanooga City Schools. She was of the Jehovah Witness faith. She loved gardening, cooking and singing.
She is predeceased by her first husband, Roger Rucker; her second husband of 27 years, Wiley Jones; daughter, Marie Shropshire; sisters, Vesta Cole and Ozella Heard; brothers, Edward McIntosh and Mozella McIntosh.
She is survived by her daughters, Jeanester Lenear, of Chattanooga, Diane (James) Headlee, of Knoxville, Couletta (Ed) Townsend, Denisce Harner, and Pauline Green, all of Chattanooga; sons, Joseph Rucker, Charles (Margaret) Rucker, and Paul Rucker, all of Chattanooga; 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; special friends, Jerome Hadley, Annette Kyle, and Lucille Davis.
A public viewing will be held from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, at the funeral home, followed by a graveside service at 1 p.m. Interment will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
