James Layne, 71, of Rossville, departed this life on Friday, April 16, 2021 at his residence. Born on May 3, 1949 in Chattanooga to the late Phines and Genevieve Vera Guy Layne, he spent the majority of his life in Sequatchie Valley before moving to Rossville. He was an avid Tennessee Vols fan and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids, who were his pride and joy.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sisters, Beverly Bolton and Sis Guy; brother, Guy Layne; and nephew, Eli Campbell.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Cynthia Layne; daughters, Felecia Lanham, Jacqueline Layne and Keta Robinette; granddaughters, Addalyn and Mandalyn Layne, and Emilia and Caydence Lanham; sister, Sue Terry; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Life and Homegoing for James Caroll Layne will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21 from the Cleveland chapel of Companion Funeral Home, with Brother Dale Bolton and Brother LaVone Powell officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home.
