Longtime TSA Officer At The Chattanooga Metro Airport Was Avid Ohio State Fan

Raymond James Steinmetz, 55, of Ooltewah, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 29, 2021.

Ray was an avid Ohio State fan. He was born at Columbus Hospital on the campus of “The” Ohio State University. His family moved to the Chattanooga area when he was six years old. He was a graduate of Central High School Class of 1984 and a member of Chamberlain Memorial Baptist Church. He previously worked at Belvoir Christian Academy and was currently employed as a TSA officer at the Chattanooga Metro Airport since 2001. His hobbies included family vacations, football, fishing and especially his wife, children, and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles William Steinmetz, Jr. and Barbara Joann Steinmetz.

Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Belinda Davis Steinmetz; children, Taylor (Nick) Watts and children Eliza and Gentry, Allyson (Nathan) Barbee and children Emerson and Finley, Jamie Steinmetz, and Aaron (Sarah) Steinmetz and children Benjamin, Elijah and Madelynn; sister, Charla (David) Haas; brother, Charles (Mary Ann Zwicknagel) William Steinmetz, III; and father and mother in-law, Charles C. (Linda Bacon) Grant; as well as many beloved aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, one great nephew, and extended family and friends.

Special thanks to his fellow TSA family who carried a special place in his heart.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 3, at the funeral home with Reverend Larry Frick officiating. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Central High School Athletic Department through the family.
