He was a member of Abba's House, Central Baptist Church of Hixson and Alan Johnston Sunday School class.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Diphda AKA-59 as a personnel man. He retired in 1992 out of the Plumbing Wholesale Supply business as a traveling Salesman and Branch Manager. He loved sports, enjoyed watching Tennessee football, Lady Vol's basketball and Atlanta Braves Baseball. As a young man, he played baseball for Whitwell's independent traveling team. He was a coach in the DuPont Rivermont girl’s softball league.

He was presented a plaque by the Whitwell High School Beta Club as the most outstanding Alumnus for 1997-98 for the work he did in putting together the first all class Whitwell High School reunion. He enjoyed very much putting together picnics and bringing together his Whitwell High School friends of Yesteryear. It was a great pleasure for him to see everyone who attended and enjoyed the good food and the great fellowship at these outings. He volunteered his services at Memorial Hospital in the Emergency Room. He was involved in doing Genealogy on his King, Coffelt families and searching the internet and Libraries for information on his ancestors. He enjoyed vacationing with his wife Katie and daughter Cynthia for many years. It pleased him very much to be involved with the Whitwell High School Foundation Board of Trustees, to assist with raising funds for Athletics and Scholarships for the student body.
