Michael DeWitt Hicks, Sr., 72, was born on August 11, 1948, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. After placing a loving phone call to his mama, Michael bid us farewell on Thursday, May 6, 2021.
 
He was the first child born from the union of Jerry F. Hicks, Jr., and Mildred T. Hicks. Michael retired from Wheland Foundry after 34 years. 

Michael accepted Christ at an early age and joined Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He graduated from Howard High School in 1966. Following high school, Michael served his country during the Vietnam War. Michael’s favorite pastimes were watching and attending sports events and playing dominoes. Later in life, Michael met and married Brenda Dorrell to which one son was born from their union.

Michael was predeceased by his father, Jerry F. Hicks, Jr.; brother, Jonathan Hicks; sister, Belinda Williams; two grandmothers, Geneva Mullins and Lavonia Suttles; grandfathers, Jerry Hicks, Sr., and Fred Turner.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Mildred Hicks; wife, Brenda Dorrell Hicks; sons, Michael (Alicia) Hicks, Jr., and Danny Hicks, both of Winston-Salem, NC; Marcus (Kay) Dorrell, of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter, LaKeisha Davis; brother, Randall Hicks and sister, Dorothy Wills; grandchildren, Christian Hicks, Zoey Danielle Tate-Hicks, Marcus Jr., Ryan Briggs and Rayonna Briggs, Kelvin Johnson, and Taurean Patillo; sisters-in-law, Cassandra Hicks, E. Mae Dorrell, Wilma (Turhan) McKenzie; nieces and nephews , Gwendolyn Hicks, Darrel Williams Jr., Wendell Brooks, Lavonia Wills Hicks, Tasha Williams, Serita Watkins, Markeisha Hicks, and Zachariah Hicks; aunts, Thelma Holloway and Joyce Carter; uncle, Frizzell Turner; great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and close friends.

Public viewing will be from 9-11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 14, at the funeral home, followed by a funeral service at noon. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
