Elizabeth “Liz” Waters Swanson, 85, a beloved mother, daughter and friend, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2021.
Liz was born on Dec. 11, 1935, in Benton, and remained a beloved neighbor to many throughout her journey of life. A class of 1954 graduate of Polk County High School, she was a longtime member of Mountain View Baptist Church and loved her church family. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking cakes and making candy. One of her fondest memories include attending the monthly gatherings “Happy Hearts,” with her senior friends, that is held at First Baptist Church of Benton.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Jamie Swanson in August 2016; mother, Claude Waters; and grandparents, Charles Arthur and Alice Virginia Hilliard Waters.
She is survived by her cousin and caregiver, Jo Ann Combs and her husband, Jeff. Several cousins and a host of special friends also survive.
A Celebration of Life graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5 at Benton Memorial Gardens, with Pastor Pete Morgan officiating. Jeff Combs, Lynn Barker, Roy Raines, Glen Watson, Jimmy Watson and Ricky Frazier will serve as pallbearers.
A time of farewell will be held from noon-12:45 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home.
