Rosie Sims
Rosie Lee Cousin Sims, 93, of Chattanooga, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, in a local hospital.
She was born to Early and Dearrie Cousin in Hamilton County on Aug. 3, 1928. She was the eldest of nine children. Rosie was a graduate of Howard High School. She was employed and retired from National Linen Service after many years of service. On Feb. 20, 1959, Rosie married James Sims, Sr. Together, they reared seven children. She was a faithful member of Rose of Sharon Baptist Church, where she was a teacher in Sunday School, and later became a member of the Mother’s Board.
Rosie was preceded in death by her husband, James Sims, Sr.; parents, Dearrie and Early Cousin, Sr.; son, Tyronne Sims; grandson, Jordan Holliman; granddaughter, Kree Moore; brothers, Robert Cousin and Early Cousin, Jr.
Survivors include her sons, Ervin (Cathy) Cousin, James (Jean) Sims, Jr., Melvin (Virginia) Cousin, Anthony (Martha) Sims, and Vincent Sims; daughter, Sandra Odom; daughter-in-law, Rosie Snow Sims; sisters, Florinda Calloway, Doris McElrath, Norma Johnson, Virginia Jones, and Leila (Henry) Lumpkin; brother, Reginald (MaeBell) Cousin; 12 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.
Rosie will lie in state on Thursday, Jan. 20, from 12:30-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be on Friday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Pastor Charles Moore as the eulogist.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
