Joe Nelson Hobbs
Joe Nelson Hobbs, 88, of Chattanooga, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, January 17, 2022, at Life Care Center of Collegedale.
He was born on June 11, 1933, in Viola, Tn. Mr. Hobbs lived most of his life in the Chattanooga area. He never met a stranger and everyone who knew him remembered him most for his great personality.
Mr. Hobbs was in the Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Korean War.
He was a motorcycle policeman with the Chattanooga Police Department for 14 years. He then went to work as a Greyhound Bus driver for 22 years. After leaving Greyhound, he worked for the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department as a process server.
Mr. Hobbs was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family going to the beach and on cruises. He loved fishing and went on annual fishing trips. He was an Alhambra Shrine lifetime clown and was a force in the clown unit. He was a dedicated servant who worked countless years to raise money for the unit and the Shriners Hospital. Joe was instrumental in the success of the Shrine bbqs, Color Cruise, Shriners Circus, parades etc. and he had a great following everywhere!
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Barbara Ann Brickell Hobbs; parents, John and Mattie Hobbs; brothers, Charles and Bobby; sisters, Vera, Georgia, and Grace.
Survivors include a son Lewis Hobbs and two daughters, Pam (Mark) Burrows and Karen Hobbs Blackburn; grandchildren, Jeremy Burrows, Jamie McBryar, and Matt Blackburn; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Heritage Funeral Home on East Brainerd Road on Sunday, Jan. 23, from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Jan. 24, at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bill Mason officiating. Interment will be at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
