A developer is planning 56 townhomes at the corner of Central Avenue and McCallie Avenue.
A number of historic homes at the site at 1001 McCallie Ave. were razed several years ago. One of the homes torn down was that of Congressman John A. Moon. It was later in use as Chattanooga Bible Institute.
A home owner on Oak Street declined to sell, preventing a prior developer from taking the whole block.
The current plan by RP Homes LaBella Associates calls for eight townhomes along Oak Street and Central Avenue and 17 along McCallie Avenue. Another 21 would be in the interior of the site.
The location is just outside the historic zoning area for Fort Wood.
