Mirella M. Karstens, 93, of Chattanooga, passed away on December 7, 2022.

Mirella was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in East Ridge. Mirella was a Spanish teacher and librarian at Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga.

Mirella was born on June 4, 1929, in Livorno, Italy, to Dino and Gina Sposini. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ed Karstens, and two children, Edward and Jimmy Karstens.

She is survived by her children, John (Elaine) Karstens, Greg (Julie) Karstens, and Debora Karstens; five grandchildren, Jenna, Kyler, Matthew, Paul, and Brennan; two great-grandchildren, Owen and Lily; and surviving family in Italy.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 12, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 501 S. Moore Road, East Ridge, Tn. 37412, with Father Zachary Griffith officiating. A burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga.

Memorial donations may be made in Mirella’s honor to the National Cemetery Association.
